INFERTILITY

An infertility diagnosis is given to a couple that has been unsuccessful in efforts to conceive over the course of one full year. Ovarian factors, tubal factors, age-related factors, uterine problems, PCOS, endometriosis etc. can all cause infertility in females.

In ayurveda importance of treatment of Infertility is fully explored in ancient literature Atharvaveda. Classics of ayurveda identifies six types of infertility.  

Ayurvedic mentions infertility as a failure to achieve child rather than pregnancy.  Garbha srava ( repeated abortion) & mrutavatsa (having repeated still birth) is also included in types of infertility. 

According to Ayurveda important constituents of garbha (fetus) are ritu ( fertile period), kshetra ( reproductive organs), ambu(nutritive fluids), beeja (ovum) also healthy psychological status. 

Vatha dosha (one among the tridisha of vata pitta & kapha) vitiating ahara vihara dosha, incompatible intercourse and inappropriate union of pregnancy  factors,dhatu kshaya, failed union of soul factor with fertilized ovum,psychological and emotional disturbances are described as main causative factors for failed conception.

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT FOR INFERTLITY

Ayurvedic treatment and management of infertility is based on the principle of correcting the underlying pathological conditions of infertility (nidana parivarjana) followed by regimen and medication indicated in garbhadhana (conception of garbha). Primary importance is given to regularizing the menstrual cycle, strengthening the ovulation, assessing the sperm quality and modifying it.

Ayurveda supports health by strengthening body’s own self-healing mechanism without hormonal pills and ovulation induction drugs.
